At the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum on Monday, November 7, in the presence of Officials and a crowd of people, the hitherto unknown novel by Nikos Kazantzakis "The Ascent", which was just published by DIOPTRA publications, was presented for the first time in Crete.
The event which was welcomed by the President of the Museum, Michalis Taroudakis, the Mayor of the Municipality of Archanos-Asterousia, Manolis Kokosalis, the representative of the Regional Governor Kostis Fasoulakis, the President of the Greek Department of the National Museum of Art, Katerina Zografistou and the intellectual beneficiary of the work of Nikos Kazantzakis, Niki Stavrou and honored with the presence of a large number of people, coordinated the director of the Museum, Marilena Milathianaki.
At the presentation of the book, Konstantinos Papadopoulos, owner of the DIOPTRA publishing house, developed his vision for the reissue of Kazantzakis' books and presented the new covers. Thanasis Agathos, associate professor of EKPA, spoke about the content of the book, as well as the historical context that the author placed his heroes. Paraskevi Vassiliadis, Associate Professor of Modern Greek Philology EKPA and curator of the Kazantzakis Museum Collections spoke about the history of the ANIFOROS manuscript, which is kept in the Kazantzakis Museum and its identification as well as its emergence was the result of her diligent and scientific research.
The event was invested with artistic videos signed by the well-known director Thodoris Papadoulakis and about the life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis produced by DIOPTRA publications.
The presentation ended with the recorded interview of Nikos Kazantzakis on French radio in 1955.
Immediately after, the opening of the exhibition entitled "The Ascent: The known-unknown work of Nikos Kazantzakis", organized by the Kazantzakis Museum, with the scientific supervision of Paraskevi Vassiliadis and the support of the Region of Crete. In its display cases there is the manuscript of ANIFOROS, letters documenting the manuscript, editions of novels by Kazantzakis that were first published in a foreign language, as well as the translation of ANIFOROS into English by Elli Lampridis.
The moment when the Publisher of DIOPTRA, Konstantinos Papadopoulos, placed the book in a separate display case, next to the manuscript, was touching.
The event ended with a rich treat from the Cultural Association of Myrtia.
The periodical exhibition will remain open until March 31, and visiting hours for the public are Mon.-Fri. 10-3 and Sundays 10-3 (closed Saturday).
