This year marks 80 years since the 3rd Holocaust of Anogeia by the German occupation troops during the Second World War. The Municipality of Anogeia organizes events that focus on this black anniversary, the price of the Holocaust, the afterlife, popular and cultural creation as well as economic activity.
Nikos Kazantzakis visited Anogeia in July 1945, one year after the Holocaust, as a member of the Central Commission for the Investigation of Atrocities by the Nazi troops during the occupation of Crete and recorded the accounts of the inhabitants of the village about its destruction and razing but and the violence they suffered.

In this context, on Sunday, August 11, at 20:00, in "Army" Square in Anogeia, the Municipality of Anogeia and The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum are organizing an event in which photographic and archival material from Kazantzakis' visit to Anogeia in 1945 will be presented, while the Director of the Museum, Ms. Marilena Milathianaki, will hold a related speech. This will be followed by the screening of the Kazantzakis Museum's new mini documentary "I am Free" in which the life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis is presented in a concise but comprehensive manner.

The evening will conclude with a musicological event entitled "From Steia to Chania, Crete is worth...!". Songs from the Cretan repertoire will be heard, while at the end heroic chants will be sung as a musical memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. The Choir of the Municipality of Anogeia sings, while the traditional Choir of Heraklion "Kastrodoundes" performs. Editing-teaching-direction: Thanos A. Giakoumakis Texts-Presentation: Kiki Argyriou
