It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Emeritus Professor of the University of Crete, Theoharis Detorakis. Theoharis Detorakis was a brilliant personality with a vast and varied education and research contribution centered on Byzantine Philology and Cretan History. An excellent university teacher, he served the University of Crete for many years, leaving behind as a historical legacy a multitude of researches, studies and lectures.
His studies and books are valuable sources of knowledge for young researchers. His contribution to Cretan Letters and the public life of his beloved island is invaluable.
The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum today mourns the loss of a great man who was honored by the Municipality of Heraklion with the award named after the great Cretan writer and thinker. The Nikos Kazantzakis Prize was awarded to Theoharis Detorakis in 1985 for the quality and extent of his scientific contribution. The overall recognition of his work was also sealed with the Ethical Order Award of the Municipality of Heraklion, which was awarded to him in 2016.
To his wife and children, the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum expresses its deepest condolences.
