In the best possible way, the anniversary events for the 40 years of operation of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum were completed on Sunday, November 20, 2023. Inside the crowded "Andreas and Maria Kalokairinou" Hall of the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion, the members of the Symphony Orchestra of Youth of Crete (S.O.N.K.) of the Municipality of Heraklion under the direction of Miltos Logiadis gave their best, capturing the warmest applause from the audience.
The event began with the screening of the documentary "The Odyssey of a Museum", a new production of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, which was filmed specifically to highlight the historical journey and rich work of the Museum since its foundation in 1983 until today.
The big concert followed, where 27 extremely talented young musicians from Crete with their instruments, such as violin, viola, cello, double bass, harpsichord, guitar, lute, lyre and mandolin with soloists Athena Vrettou and Evangelia Koutsodimou, took the audience on a journey to " Four seasons' of time by Antonio Vivaldi. On the other hand, the composition "Captain Michalis" by Manos Hadjidakis with Tasos Apostolou in an exemplary interpretation of the song, functioned as a musical embodiment of the historical and literary masterpiece of Nikos Kazantzakis.
The event was dedicated to the memory of the great Giorgos
Grammatikakis, as a small tribute to the memory of the former President
of the Museum Nikos Kazantzakis and a great music lover.
