1983 – 2023: The Odyssey of a museum - 40 years in action for The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum!

1956: Nikos Kazantzakis expresses to his wife, Eleni, his desire to collect all his personal items and manuscripts in his birthplace and to create a "Nikos Kazantzakis House".

1976: Giorgos Anemoyiannis, revoking the wishes of his relative Nikos Kazantzakis, decides to grant his house in Myrtia and establish a museum dedicated exclusively to the great writer.

1983: Melina Merkouri, Minister of Culture at the time, inaugurates the Kazantzakis Museum in the presence of many people. A beautiful journey has just begun.

2023: 40 years later, the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum remains active, richer and stronger than ever and is preparing to celebrate its "birthday"!
