Kazantzakis Museum's Scientific Conference:
"The female figure in the life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis" (20-22/10/2023, Vikelaia Library of Heraklion)
The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum, as part of its Anniversary Celebrations for 40 years of uninterrupted operation, is organizing the scientific conference: "The female figure in the life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis". The conference will take place at the Vikelea Municipal Library of Heraklion between October 20 - 22, 2023.
The female form has an important presence in the life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis, while the ambivalent representation of women in his work has often been commented upon. As with other issues related to the author, the topic often raises conflicting opinions.
The conference is addressed to young researchers, experienced and specialized scholars of Modern Greek Literature and Nikos Kazantzakis, as well as the general public. In the proceedings of the conference, aspects of the life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis will be examined around his relationship with the female form and its depiction in his texts, unexplored or overlooked aspects of the subject will be explored and new, objective and based on modern scientific data approaches.
At the same time, with the main part of the conference, special actions have been planned, such as a walk in Heraklion of Kazantzakis, a Student event inspired by the "Palaces of Knossos" of Kazantzakis and a Periodical exhibition on the theme of "The Ascent" of Kazantzakis.
Attendance at the conference and parallel activities is open and free to the public.
The conference is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, with co-organizers the Region of Crete and the Municipality of Heraklion and with the support of the Vikela Municipal Library of Heraklion.
